Daily Walrus - Helping People Help Animals

Compassionate traveling | January 12, 2008

Ryan and I are on the road this weekend, traveling to Virginia to celebrate his upcoming birthday.  Luigi is at daycare/boarding and the cats are at the cat-sitter’s apartment (hopefully not knocking things off of her shelves).

Whenever we travel, we fill up several travel-size containers with all of our cruelty-free toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, body wash, face wash, etc…) just in case the hotel we are staying at provides products that are tested on animals.  We were pleased to discover when we checked in to the room last night that their complimentary shampoos and soaps are provided by a cruelty-free company.

When traveling, make sure to let your hotel know that you expect your stay to be comfortable, and that this includes knowing that the amenities provided should be animal-friendly.  If they offer shampoos and soaps that are tested on animals, leave a comment in their comment box or send an e-mail letting them know that you will not be staying with them them in the future.  If they do provide cruelty-free products, let them know how much you appreciate it.

About author

Hello - we are Jenny and Ryan, a couple living in Brooklyn, New York. We are both busy with school and work but try to take time to do something every day to make the world a better place for animals. Occasionally we may link to outside websites for additional resources, but we do not necessarily endorse all policies of these organizations. Despite the title of our blog, the focus is not only on walruses. So what's with the title? We named this blog after our cat, Wally, aka The Walrus. We are the proud parents of two cats (Wally and Tito) and one dog (Luigi).
